Studiolo from the Ducal Palace in Gubbio by Francescp do Giorgio Martini
The awe-inducing woodwork in this studio from the late 15th century has always been one of my favorite installations at the Met. Called intarsia or wood inlay, the rendering of three-dimensional objects and shadows is stunning.
